The Word

 Imagine you are the disciple John.  You have spent three unbelievable years with Jesus watching Him teach and preach and do countless miracles.  You have seen Him die on a cross, watched Him appear in the locked upper room, witnessed His ascension and experienced the arrival of the Holy Spirit in tongues of fire.  Years later you are writing down an account of everything you have experienced.  What is the first thing you are going to say?

The first thing John says is ' In the beginning was the Word'  



Im not sure that's how I would have started.

Words are funny things.  They are absolutely fundamental to our very existence.   Question: is it possible to think if you don't have words?     There have been studies done on deaf people to try to work out what is going on in the brains of people who don't have a spoken language.  And it turns out that people born deaf don't think in the same way as hearing people do.  If they have sign language they ' think' in signs.  If they don't have signs they think in pictures.   You and I think in words. Sometimes those words are accompanied by images.  But mostly our thoughts come to us in words.  Without words its so hard to imagine how we would conceptualise and imagine anything.  With words so much becomes possible.

Jesus is God's language.  I speak English. God speaks Jesus.   God's thought processes are expressed through the medium of Jesus. God's imagination is made tangible in Him. Without Jesus God could not have translated the immense expanse of His creativity into action.  When God spoke in Genesis and everything came into being, it was Jesus who was taking the thoughts of God and turning them into visible created matter.  As God opened His mouth to say ' Let there be...' what was exhaled was the DNA of all life which went forth to create everything and is still creating everything today. That DNA was the DNA of Jesus.

Or at least that's what I think. As far as I can get my mind round it.  Its all a bit..... mind bending isnt it?

 John obviously understood that his friend Jesus was a bit like an audio book narrating the story God was writing. Everything Jesus did was expressing who God was. Everything He said was God's voice speaking. And that this was the most important thing that people needed to understand.  The same God who spoke the world into being was speaking the same language He spoke then, in a way that ordinary people could understand, see, hear, feel, touch and respond to.   God, in Jesus, began a conversation.  The Holy Spirit allows us to speak Jesus too.  And communicate with God in His own language.  Through us, God is continuing to speak into the universe. His church is now fluent in Jesus and able to express the heart and mind of the Father to the world.

That got a whole lot deeper than I thought it would when I set out to write it!  These are just my musings and maybe its a lot of nonsense. So do chew on this in your own time and come to your own conclusions.  Im sure that's what you do with all my blog posts. 😊

 When you live inside time it is nigh on impossible to imagine someone who lives outside time. Lamb of God

  Just when you think you know everything there is to know about the birth of Jesus.........😁 So who knows about the Tower of the Flock?  ( dont tell me if you do cos Ive only just discovered this and Im super excited 😂)  I already knew that the area around Bethlehem was used for rearing the sheep which would be used in the temple for sacrifices.  Thousands of lambs were needed every year for the special festivals as well as for regular sin offerings so it was a large and full time business raising sacrificial lambs.  It is why there were shepherds out in the fields watching the flocks by night.  The countryside was full of sheep.  And therefore also full of shepherds. Son of Man

 This morning in the car on the way to school I asked Ben which name of Jesus I should write about today and without missing a beat he said ' Son of man'.  Which was interesting given that he had no idea that yesterday we were looking at Jesus the Son of God.  :) I realised that I didnt really know much about this title.  Its one of those phrases that washes over you for years and then you take a look at it and realise that you probably haven't understood what it really means.   So I went off to do a bit of finding out.  In my research I came across this article which is really good and says everything in a meaningful and concise way - so there seems little point in regurgitating it all in my own words.  Read it for yourself here   https://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-Son-of-Man.html My thoughts  after all that turned to ancestry.  The fact that Jesus has a family tree just like I do.  Jesus can trace His family tree back to Adam...
